I live in Arkansas and it is my firm belief that the Arkansas Republican Party is the worst in the nation. Despite AR being a state conservative enough to twice elect Mike Huckabee and to twice vote for Bush and once for McCain, the current Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer, both Senators, three (out of four) Representatives, and super-majorities of both houses of the Legislature are all Democratic. The Republican candidates for state office in 2006 spent thousands of dollars on campaign ads warning of the threat of homosexuals adopting children. The Republicans couldn’t find a single candidate to run against Senator Mark Pryor in the 2008 election. Pathetic.
I can’t help but to think there is a similar problem in California. It’s generally considered the most liberal state by the public, votes democratically in national elections, yet has a Republican governor and voted for prop 8.
